I was thinking the other day about who is influencing my children each day of their lives. I know as their parents we are supposed to be influencing our children, but the fact is I only see them a few hours a day. They get up in the morning and go to school and when they get home they normally do their homework or participate in some activity outside of the home. I only see them at the end of the day and typically we are watching television or a movie before we go to bed. So who is influencing my children? Well, their teachers at school, their teachers or coaches outside of school, the TV shows they watch, and their friends top off the list. I think sometimes as parents we wonder what happened to our children’s attitudes towards us. Why don’t they listen to us anymore? Why don’t they want to be around us as much? Why don’t they realize we only want the best for them?

And then I asked myself the same questions. What or who is influencing me? I think whatever influences us ultimately determines how we act and how we influence others. So why should I be concerned about who influences me and my children?
